5 Disadvantages of Being a Work at Home Mom

Widisadvantages-of-working-from-hometh the change from working outside the home to working within the home, you may experience unexpected challenged. The only way to make this transition is by identifying and understanding some of the disadvantages that can happen when deciding to work from home.

1) No Set Schedule

No matter how you try to organize your calendar and daily schedule, this can all be over-turned in a split second. There may be the sudden need of sick or just fussy infant or toddler that just wants your attention, or it may come from a school-aged child who has just fallen sick at school and needs to be picked up.

2) Constant Interruptions

When mom is seen working from home, this may not be fully understood by the children. You might find yourself constantly interrupted by your kids while you try and work on a task. If it’s not the children, it’s the neighbors, or the phone, or the mail carrier.

All these interruptions will only take more time away from your work. This in turn means longer working hours for you due to commitments that you may have already made with clients.

3) Hard to Schedule Time for Yourself

Sometimes, your family may see your work time as time already spent by yourself, so why would you need anything more? Since you are at home, the demands continue and soon your calendar and your day become full.

Time for yourself may only be at night, but by then you may be too exhausted to do anything but just sleep. It’s amazing how quickly your day can fill up with work you are obligated to do and the demands of your family.

4) End up Working More

When you were working outside of the home, there were most likely set times of operation. You had a set time to be at work and a time to leave work. When working at home, it is easy to get carried away in your home office or other special place in your home, and work late hours.

Working these late hours could leave you too tired the next day to continue a hectic schedule. What can then happen is you becoming over-worked. When you reach this level, it will be harder to stay happy, take care of your clients, take care of your family, and take care of yourself.

5) Having to Handle more
Being a work at home mom doesn’t change the fact that you are still working and still trying to run a household. In fact, you may be having to deal with more household items as your family now sees you at home and may assume you now have more time.

You could also be the one that puts more demands on yourself as well. For example, you may be distracted with tasks that need to be done around the home, and lose track of the work that you need to get done.

There is never a perfect place. It is only as perfect as you allow it to be.

5 Benefits of Being a Work at Home Mom

work-at-home-momsFor most busy moms, having to return to the workforce outside of the home after having children is a trying time. Mothers tend to be the nurturers and often feel a lot of guilt of having to put their child in daycare, or placing older children in after school programs. Becoming a work at home mom turns the tables on this guilt.

If you are one of these moms deciding whether to stay in your 9 to 5 job or quit and work from home either in the same career or a new one, these top five benefits may help you make your decision.

1) Create Your Work Schedule

When you work from home, you control when you will work. You will no longer be tied to a routine hourly job or endless salary job that keeps you at work for hours. Working from home gives you the flexibility to schedule your work around other things you may need to do or time that you want to spend with your family.

It is all in your own hands. You can control how much you will work and how much you will not. There is no more dependence on others for you to get your job done and meet deadlines. You are now in charge of your own outcomes.

2) Attend Children Activities

Now that you are in charge of your schedule, you are free to be a chaperone at your child’s school for field trips, attending your child’s school activities. You may never miss one of your child’s school performances or ceremonies again.

Your kids will be overjoyed to see you at their school, especially when they’re young. They may be especially happy that mom can pick them up from school and they don’t have to stay in after school care anymore.

3) Enroll Children in Afterschool Programs

Now that you can pick your children up right after school, it’s easier for them to join sporting activities, or other activities of interest, such as dance. Transportation will no longer be an issue and your children will have more opportunities to grow as individuals.

You can always use this time when your children are at an activity to do some work, or go for your walk or simply relax. Or you can be even more productive and use this time for household errands so you don’t have to drag tired children with you.

4) Easier Appointment Scheduling

When you had to juggle setting appointments for you and your children, sometimes even having to take sick leave or vacation leave from your outside workforce career, this is no longer the case. Appointments can just be scheduled according to what works best for you, with no asking for permission.

Another great benefit is that you can now make appointments that fit with your schedule and that of your children. The stress of scheduling appointments can now be lifted.

5) Freedom from Office Politics

Now that you are your own boss, or at least are away from an office setting, you may no longer need to deal with the stress of office politics. Working in an office with many different personalities can create unnecessary drama and low work ethics.

Working at home you have the freedom to work in your pajamas if you want to, drink the entire pot of coffee, eat at your desk, and be who you truly are. You don’t need to worry about how anyone feels, and you can enjoy your own happiness by working alone and being productive.

Helping Busy Mom Unleash Thier Passions

I can’t believe we are embarking on a New Year and as I reflect about my my vision to empower other busy mom’s and help them unleash their passion. I begin to think about how am I going to do that and make a bigger impact in 2014?

The last month has been filled with lots of brainstorming, removing clutter so that I can get clear and have a game plan in place. For the most part I have a good idea of what I have planned for next year, well at least it is written down but there are some day’s I need not to stick to a schedule.

Okay bare with me, when I say not stick to a schedule there are days I can feel something tugging at my spirit and may need to send a post or some quick motivation, but it has nothing to do with whatever my topic is for the month.  There are some days I just want to just openly write and just share what is on my mind.

A few days ago, I was online searching for some information for my business clients to help them with their business plan and I stumbled across this awesome website. Suitcase Entrepreneur by Natalie Sisson and she is doing a 30 day blog challenge. Now I know for me this is going to be a challenge, because I already have so much on my plate, but hey I am jumping in feet first. If you blog or are interested in blogging I invite you to join me.

Day 1 challenge calls for an introduction of my mission, “Helping Busy Mom’s Unleash Their Passions”  Why did I start? Who do I want to reach? What I want it to be all about?   and who the heck is LaKeisha Hankins

so here we go…

So who am I? I am sure you can visit my bio but in a nutshell, I am Disciple for Christ, Wife, and Busy Mom of 4 Awesome Girls, my girls are my pride and joy, I absolutely love being a mom it’s a job but the benefits are AWESOME!!

I started coaching in 2011 and it’s been a journey of discovering myself and trying to find my target market, I started with working with women who wanted to understand their Purpose and I think I was more so excited with that because I had just discovered mines, but shortly realized that year there were other areas such as business and mindset I was more drawn to.

I also love the industry of network or affiliate marketing, but sometimes it is a struggle of trying to balance the two and not send mixed messages to my audience.

I want to reach other busy mom’s just like myself who are ready to Unleash Their Passions. I truly believe you can live the life of your dreams and balance it with your family and lifestyle.

So I hope you enjoy the postings, learn more about who I am and maybe one day we can partner together.
